Top 5 Wedding Trends for 2016

We are fresh into the new wedding season of 2016! The last few years have seen brides drawing inspiration direct from Pinterest or the Royal wedding, couples are now hoping to put their own personal stamp on it and for their guests to have fun!

SHINE ON
According to Harriette Rose Katz, an event planning guru from New York, metallic is big in for the 2016 wedding season. Rose gold is hot and will be seen from the wedding ring itself to table linens, florals and much more. Silver, apparently, is on the way out!

THAT HOMELY FEEL
Couples are now incorporating those special memories and trinkets from home. Even if the wedding is not local to where they grew up. For example using vintage street lamps, props from an Irish Bar and so on.

ROMANCE IS STILL ALIVE
Yes believe it or not romance is still at the forefront of wedding decor and design. Creating a soft, moody and romantic atmosphere helps guests to relax and enjoy the celebrations. Los Angeles–based event designer Trish Stevens, of Classic Party Rentals. “Wedding lighting is the best — and simplest — way to establish both.”

LESS FORMAL FLORALS
Arrangements that feature both whatever is in season and whatever is local are gaining traction. Sometimes couples request a “wild” look, say Casey Schwartz and Kit Wertz of Flower Duet in Los Angeles. “What they’re after are freshly picked blooms.” These free-form bouquets and center pieces often include a mix of big and small blossoms in more than one color, and might use spiky flowers or fruiting vines to serve as exclamation points.

THE BRIDAL ATTIRE

Feathers! Plunging necklines! 3D florals! The Spring 2016 bridal runways were rife with trendy details that all brides will adore. It all comes down to personal choice but there are so many differing trends for 2016 it even has me confused!

Planning a Wedding From Abroad

Coming home to get married .... Top Tips!

It may seem like a daunting task planning a wedding in Ireland from abroad. We asked Laura Cash from Swans and Gibbons to give us her top tips! Laura has worked with couples getting married at Powerscourt House and Gardens  and here are her top 5 tips for your destination wedding in Ireland!

As Dorothy says .... 'There's no place like home'. So it's not surprising that many Irish couples living abroad are coming home to get married. And with an abundance of incredibly talented and creative suppliers, a diverse range of stunning venues and the 'can't be bought' bit of Craic, its no wonder!

So we have compiled a Top 5 list of what needs to be done to get the ball rolling ....

1. Make Pinterest and Skype your new best friends. Pinterest is an incredibly valuable tool for sharing your style with suppliers allowing them to see your vision. Be warned though - many days will be lost to pinning addiction. If you are finding it difficult to realise your vision on Pinterest alone, then Skype will allow you to see everything a little easier. From tours around Venues to chats about bouquets. It will encourage good communication and stop days wasted through back and fourth emails.

2. The Dreaded Legals! We can't emphasize how important it is to get on top of this task from the get go. Whether you are getting married in a church, at the venue or in a forest, you will need to give notice of your intent to marry at least 3 months prior to your wedding. And if your partner is not from Ireland or has a different religion be prepared to fill out extra paperwork. You can contact any of the registrars on the HSE website who will steer you in the right direction. www.hse.ie

3. If you are going to make a trip home in the months before your wedding make sure you set aside a day or two to arrange all your appointments to meet with suppliers you are using - cake tasting, wine tasting, florist, make up, hair etc. You will be worn out but will have plenty to check off your list and it will eliminate the need to do it the week before the wedding which should be about relaxing and spending time with family and friends.

4. Get organised! Log on to the Internet, source what you need then write up a list of everything that you can do from where you are living (dress, suit, shoes etc) and another one for what needs to be done in Ireland. This will ease that overwhelming feeling of panic. Then delegate, delegate, delegate. As self confessed control freaks we know this can be hard (believe us) but if your brother/aunt/neighbour is offering to help, take them up on the offer. Small jobs like collecting the Ceremony booklets and buying the unity candles take up plenty of time when you add them all together. So don't be shy in asking for and taking help.

5. Talk to your venue. No one will know your venue better than the venue itself. So make an appointment to chat (via Skype of course!) and get grilling them on all things wedding. Most venues will have a designated wedding coordinator who will be happy to run through all your questions. They will know what works best and where the band/DJ should go, what canapés work best and what time the dancing kicks off.

And if all else fails, think about hiring a Wedding Planner for full planning, on the day Coordinating or anything in between. We love love love taking the stress out of wedding planning and creating the perfect day for each individual couple.

Happy Planning

Romance in Summer!

Memories to last a lifetime!

There are so many different reasons to get married at Powerscourt in August. The weather is generally good, allowing wedding couples and guests the luxury of a drinks reception in the magnificent gardens. The gardens at Powerscourt are in full bloom especially the Rose Garden, the stunning Herbaceous Border and the romantic and tranquil Japanese Garden.

Eleanor and Pablo had a stunning day here for their wedding on the 14th August 2015. Here's what this wonderful couple had to say;

"While we may be ever so slightly biased, Powerscourt House & Gardens has got to be the best wedding and event venue in the country.  The stunning gardens, beautiful rooms and wonderful hospitality made for an incredible day, one which will stay with us and our guests for many years to come.

It's hard to know where to start, but Conrad and his team went above and beyond to make sure the day went off without a hitch.  They executed a very last-minute transfer of drinks reception to the gardens (Irish weather at its unpredictable best!) which we were extremely grateful for, as we really wanted to show off the beautiful Irish countryside to our international guests.  Everyone was incredibly professional and a special shout-out must go to Neil who was so attentive knowing how people liked their drinks and even got involved in some of our photo fun!  Service in the ballroom was fantastic and we received so many compliments about the simply delicious food.  We particularly appreciated the deviation regarding the midnight snacks; we have a slight obsession with bacon butties!

In the run-up to the day, I’m sure Conrad was driven quite demented by our emails but nothing seemed too much trouble and he was a great support throughout the entire process.  We really had a brilliant day and it is such a privilege to have been able to celebrate our wedding in Powerscourt.  Thank you to everyone involved for helping to create such a memorable day!”

May Wedding at Powerscourt House & Gardens

Summer Weddings at Powerscourt

Powerscourt House and Gardens are stunning all year but they are just beautiful in the Summer months. As the garden begin to come to life with many beautiful booms it is also the kick start to our wedding season at Powerscourt.

Eimear and Dominic were wed on the 28th May this year and here's what they had to say;

''We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at Powerscourt House for making our wedding day so memorable. From the moment we visited the venue we knew that this was the perfect place for our wedding and it lived up to all our expectations.

The downstairs room for our ceremony was cosy and intimate and having our reception outside in the gardens with ‘that view’ was just perfect, although the room upstairs was so nice that we knew our guests would be happy inside or out.

We had a lot of people travelling from the UK so it was important to us that they were wowed by the venue and beautiful Wicklow scenery, which they of course were! We received so many compliments about how beautiful the house and the gardens were. Not to mention having stunning photos as a result of the backdrop.

The staff at Feast also provided us with a perfectly smooth day and thought of everything we would need. The food was delicious and the wine flowed. Both the house staff and Feast helped us so much in the run up to the wedding and could not have been more helpful.

We and all our guests had such a great day and night we wish we could do it all again. We would not hesitate to recommend this venue to any couple planning their big day.''

Powerscourt House and Gardens is truly a stunning wedding venue in the Garden of Ireland, County Wicklow.

A Romantic Affair

Summertime Weddings at Powerscourt House

The perfect wedding begins with the perfect location. Andy and Katya decided that the historic Powerscourt House and Gardens was just right for them!

It’s pretty hard to find something not to love about Powerscourt, from the grand Palladian Mansion to the expanse of finely manicured gardens, a perfect setting for a summer wedding. Andy and Katya celebrated their wedding in July, we are so delighted they had such a wonderful day!

''We could not have asked for more, and everything was absolutely perfect! The house itself is just stunning, very light and spacious, beautifully renovated and has an absolutely incredible atmosphere. The view of the mountain and the gardens from the house is breath-taking and we were so excited for our guests (especially for those travelling from U.S.A., Russia, and United Kingdom) to enjoy it on the day. When the planning began for the big day, we knew we were in good hands, when Conrad offered us his support in everything we needed. He was always there for us to answer all the questions (and we had MANY questions), promptly responding to our emails and having numerous phone calls with us. The day before and on the day of the wedding itself, Conrad made sure everything is as perfect as it could possibly be. We are forever grateful for all the hard work that he has done. The team that worked with Conrad deserves a special shout out as well, all of them were very professional, friendly and attentive to us and our guests.

We have to separately mention the food and wines offered for the wedding, we LOVED every single dish we tasted during the food tasting, so deciding what we want on the wedding menu wasn't easy at all, however we finally agreed to go for salmon as a starter, guinea fowl and halibut as a main course, and poached pear as a dessert, we had no regrets. The food was prepared to perfection, served on time, and we received many many compliments from our guests who enjoyed their dinner very much.

As for many couple, our wedding was a very special and memorable day to us. But we are delighted that all our 110 guests enjoyed the day as much as we did. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank every single member of Powerscourt House team who made our wedding the best of our lives!''.

Summertime at Powerscourt House & Gardens

Nestled in the mountains of County Wicklow and surrounded by the natural beauty of the magnificent gardens Powerscourt House is undeniably breathtaking!

Kelly often visited Powerscourt as a child and so she decided on Powerscourt House for her special day.  On a summers day in June this year Kelly and Olly celebrated with family and friends, here's what they had to say;

''I have many happy memories of visiting Powerscourt Estate as a child and it was a dream come true to get married there. The setting is incredible, the Ballroom is stunning, the staff are incredibly attentive and the food fantastic. We have had so many positive comments from our guests and we feel extremely privileged that we were able to host our wedding in this incredibly beautiful estate. There really is no other setting like it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts''.
